Finding aids

The IdGL archives contain documents as well as maps, films, images and sound material.

The holdings of the archive include written material as well as maps, films, images, and audio recordings, originate for the most part from private individuals as well as from organizations and associations. They allow a source-based examination of Danube Swabian history in its South-East European and German contexts and beyond. The archive holdings reflect the three keywords of the research conducted at the Institute of Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies: ‘migrations’, ‘minorities’, and ‘memories’ (memories).

The archive team continuously strives to process the holdings in a professional and appropriate manner (sorting, indexing, creating finding aids, etc.) and thus make them accessible to users. The team collects relevant archival material and is happy to respond to inquiries in this regard.

The ongoing activities of cataloguing and collecting taking place under the aegis of the archive, together with the research carried out at the Institute of Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies, are meant to strengthen the role of the institute as a key institution of research on the Southeast of Europe in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, as well as at an international level. The archive is therefore an important point of reference for interested parties and researchers working on Danube Swabian and Southeast European topics.

The catalogue of the holdings of the IdGL archive is now available online at Findbuch.net. The finding aid does not contain the complete archive holdings. The archive team strives continuously to complete the catalogue and to make the holdings accessible to researchers and all interested parties.
