Image archive

The image archive fulfils the Institute's documentation mandate. It documents the history and culture of the Danube Swabians and their regions of origin.

The picture shows 3 postcards: 2 views of Pécs with street scene and houses and the back of a postcard with handwritten text.

The collection, which has been created through research projects, documentation and study trips, but also through the purchase of thematic pictures and series as well as through donations, is constantly being expanded and digitised.

The image archive comprises the following holdings: photo collection (approx. 15,000 units), graphics collection (approx. 600 units), picture postcard collection (approx. 6,000 units), poster collection (approx. 500 units). Particularly valuable parts of the picture archive include the estate of the German folklorist Rudolf Hartmann with photographs from Hungary, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria in the first half of the 20th century in Hungary, the slide documentation of the work of German artists on Hungarian sacred buildings since the 18th century or posters of German-language theatres in Romania and Hungary.
