The library of the IdGL

The IdGL library is a publicly accessible special library with around 45,000 media units. In addition to books, these include magazines, newspapers, audio-visual media, microfilms and maps. The library also provides various databases.

Opening hours

Monday - Thursday
10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Friday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The collection focuses on specialist and popular scientific literature on the institute's research areas, reference works, specialist dictionaries, regional literature, local monographs and literature on the integration of refugees and displaced persons in Germany. 

The library is open to anyone interested free of charge. It is a reference library with the option of weekend borrowing.

For on-site use, there are several workstations, a PC for catalog research, a copier with scanning function, free WiFi and a digital microfilm scanner.

Library catalog

The institute's holdings can be fully researched via the online catalog. In addition, articles from anthologies and journals are recorded.

Map collection

The institute has a significant collection of current and historical maps. The collection includes historical, topographical maps and atlases from the 16th to the 21st century, including individual maps, map series, official survey plans, city maps and rare and valuable old maps. There is also a small selection of digital maps. All maps can be researched via the library catalog.
