This volume examines processes of urban transformation in cities of Southeastern Europe since the 1980s. It focuses on the growing influence of market-oriented structures as well as the role of local actors and dynamics. The contributions combine historical and social science perspectives and address key areas of urban development, including infrastructure, housing, financing, and public space. Particular attention is paid to the effects of political transformations since 1989 and to the significance of historical legacies for post-socialist urban development.
