On 15 September 2026, the exhibition Danube Ports. History, Architecture, People opened at the Regional Museum of History in Ruse. Following previous presentations in cities including Budapest, Ulm and Novi Sad, the travelling exhibition has now reached the Lower Danube. It explores the history of Danube ports as places of transport and trade, urban development and architecture, as well as spaces of encounter and exchange between people and ideas.
The presentation in Ruse comes at a particularly significant moment, as Bulgaria holds the Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) in 2026. In this context, the exhibition has attracted considerable attention. In Ruse, one of Bulgaria’s major Danube port cities, the exhibition highlights the close connections between the history of ports and the development and interconnection of the wider Danube region. In doing so, it addresses questions that remain highly relevant to cooperation across the Danube region today.
